Russian pole vaulter who is widely considered the greatest female pole vaulter in history. She set 28 world records during her career and won Olympic gold medals at the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Games, plus a bronze at 2012 London. She was the first woman to clear 5.00 meters and eventually pushed the record to 5.06m. Her technical mastery and competitive dominance defined an era of the event. She was World Champion three times. After retiring, she became a member of the IOC Athletes' Commission, though her career legacy was complicated by Russia's broader doping scandals.
