American artistic gymnast considered the greatest of all time, with a combined total of 37 Olympic and World Championship medals. She has four skills named after her — moves so difficult no other gymnast has replicated them in competition. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she withdrew from several events citing mental health concerns (the 'twisties'), sparking a worldwide conversation about athlete wellbeing. She returned triumphantly at the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning three golds and a silver. A survivor of Larry Nassar's abuse, she has been a powerful advocate for athlete safety and mental health awareness.
