Canadian singer-songwriter and painter widely regarded as one of the most important and influential musicians of the 20th century. Albums like 'Blue' (1971), 'Court and Spark' (1974), and 'Hejira' (1976) pushed folk, pop, and jazz into new emotional and harmonic territory. Her songwriting combined confessional vulnerability with sophisticated musical composition, influencing countless artists across genres. She is also a respected painter whose work has appeared on many of her album covers. After a brain aneurysm in 2015, she made a celebrated comeback at the Newport Folk Festival in 2022.
