New Zealand politician who served as Prime Minister from 2017 to 2023, becoming the world's youngest female head of government at 37. She gained global recognition for her compassionate leadership during the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings, when she swiftly enacted gun reform legislation. She was only the second elected world leader to give birth while in office. Her government's response to COVID-19 was initially praised internationally for its elimination strategy. She surprised the world by resigning in January 2023, citing burnout. She has since taken up roles at Harvard and in global leadership forums.
