Physics East Asia 20th

Chinese-American experimental physicist who disproved the law of conservation of parity through her famous 1956 experiment with cobalt-60, one of the most important results in particle physics. Despite designing and conducting the experiment, the 1957 Nobel Prize went to theorists Lee and Yang, who had proposed the hypothesis she tested. Known as the 'First Lady of Physics,' she also contributed to the Manhattan Project and made precision measurements of beta decay. She was the first woman to serve as president of the American Physical Society.
